with the Health Quality & Safety

implement a National CLAB collaborative was
sent to the HQSC by Dr Mary Seddon, Clinical

Ko
Awatea and the South Auckland
Clinical School (SACS) has been a buzz with
nervous activity the past couple of
weeks as Year 4 and Year 5 medical
students and TI (Trainee Interns) on
clinical placement at Middlemore
Hospital and at other DHBs (Auckland, Waitemata, Waikato and
Whangarei) sit their clinical
exams.
The
examinations are a combination of
theory and practical with students
testing out their assessment,
observation and clinical skills on
simulated and 'real life' patients.
"This is a real test of what our
junior doctors face on a day to day
basis and provides them with the
assessment and observation skills to
make informed decisions about their
patients care," says Andrew Hill,
Head of South Auckland Clinical
School.

Recognising our leaders

It was a real honour
to attend the graduation of 15 CMDHB
staff from the inaugural Aspiring
Leaders Programme, which started in
February 2011.
15 graduates ranging
from cleaning, clinical, nursing staff
and social workers were presented their
certificates by CMDHB CEO Geraint Martin
who commended them on their wonderful
achievement.
It was a proud moment
for everyone - tutors, students and
their colleagues alike. Participants
had come through the course with a whole
new perspective on leadership and more
importantly on themselves.
